My name is Alla Markh. I am a professional Russian teacher with over six years’ experience. Before moving to London in 2005 I taught English and Russian in Latvia. Now I live in London and work both independently and for several language schools. I have experience teaching at companies such as Citigroup, Commerzbank, Moody's, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Alfa Bank and DEPFA Bank amongst others.

Apart from teaching I am also studying for an MA in Management of Language Learning at the University of Greenwich. At the moment I am working on my dissertation dedicated to problems of morphological variability between English and Russian, as well as the influence of native language grammar and Generative Grammar on the acquisition of a foreign language. I consider this knowledge extremely beneficial for a language teacher, as it lets us get an insight into the internal acquisitional mechanism of the learner and sheds more light towards teaching foreign languages more effectively and efficiently.

Apart from Russian (my mother language) and English, I also speak Latvian, German, and some Spanish. I have recently started learning Hebrew. I therefore know exactly what it is like to be a student studying a language from scratch. Language study demands the utmost patience, time and commitment, but the challenge is extremely rewarding. The more progress you make, the more satisfaction it gives you.
